Last Sunday a group of firies from the region returned home after taking on a career change; parking up their fire truck and mounting their postie bikes. The 1000km round trip from Kingaroy to Biggenden, via Monto served a dual purpose for the team.  The trip was organised to raise funds for the Movember Foundation. The foundation was formed back in 2003 by Adam and Travis Garone to raise awareness of the fight men are facing when it comes to prostate and testicular cancer, mental health and suicide.

The team, led by Danny Hurt, set off on Wednesday the 6th of December on their somewhat uncool, and relatively slow bikes, usually reserved for urban streets, and headed toward the North Burnett.  On their journey the team also stopped at Wheatlands, Binjour and Mt Perry State School to personally deliver the service’s fire safety message, which could not have come at a better time with the heightened bushfire risk our region is currently facing.

The Movember Foundation in Australia raised $29 million last year with 76.5% of those funds being used to fund men’s health projects, like the partnership they have developed with Beyond Blue.  The 2019 Firies’ Postie Run total currently sits at $6420, which has far exceeded their goal of $2000 that they had hoped to raise.  If you would like to donate follow the link Donate Here
